I presented my Meth Lab/Spanish Study Group sketch on Thursday. I’m really happy with it, mainly because I love the premise. I’d talk about it more, but it needs some editing, so I want to take some time to work on it. I’m also considering turning it into an essay for PIC or CollegeHumor or something. The basic premise though, is this: A girl comes to her Spanish study group and because she was an hour late, her friends have turned the group into a fully functioning meth lab. I know that first sentence kind of gave that all a way, but I really wanted to make sure all the subtlety came through.

I took a great nap after school. It wasn’t the most refreshing or anything, but it was just really cool because I was watching a movie (the entirely shitty “K and R”), fell asleep about 10 minutes in, and then woke up exactly during the credits. I like timing.

That night we went to Marlena’s to hang out. The party devolved (or evolved, as I like to think) into a bunch of us playing songs from the 90’s. Truth be told, it felt like a Majors party. Ah, nostalgia.

On Friday, we all got to have a talk with Matt Hovde, a director at Second City. It was incredibly informative. What I’m realizing is that it’s access to people like him that really make the program amazing. He really broke down the life of a Second City performer: What it takes to get there, how to work your way up, what rehearsals are like, etc. It was very fun and very helpful. Afterward, we did some longform as per tradition. It went funnily well.

That night, Alex, Chris, Sam, Bobby, Jake, and I went to get burgers at this pub near Southport. The burgers were only ok, but, we were informed of the most amazing deal as we were leaving. At this place, from 7-11, it’s all you can eat or drink for 11 bucks. I have no idea how they can afford to do that…but I damn sure want to find out.

After that we met up with Justin for the Big Fan screening. I really liked the movie. It was a lot funnier than I thought. The trailer paints it as very dark, and there are definitely parts of the movie that are. Patton Oswalt’s character just doesn’t learn a thing, and alienates his entire family in the process. There’s also a great twist in the end, and the movie is shot beautifully: It really captures the tri-state area aesthetic. The Q&A after the movie was super fun. Patton Oswalt is hilarious, and Robert Seigel was pretty cool too. That makes it sound like I’m kind of dissing Siegel, but Patton Oswalt was just on fire.

We went to Chris and Alex’s afterward. There, we played a game called: Bet Your LIver. You can guess how the night ended.
